The 2026 BusNSW Industry Awards were presented at the Australasia Bus & Coach Expo Gala Dinner on 15 July.
BusNSW Achiever Award (Joint Recipient)
Winner: Sarah Hansen – Langley’s Coaches & Australia Wide Coaches
Having grown up in the bus and coach industry, Sarah developed an early appreciation of the commitment required to operate a successful transport business. After establishing a career in theatre nursing, she returned to the industry, bringing valuable expertise in safety and risk management.
Sarah has progressed through a succession of leadership positions to become Business Manager, overseeing operations across regional New South Wales.
Her leadership in compliance, safety governance, operational excellence and business development has strengthened the organisation, while her work coordinating coach tours throughout Australia has supported regional tourism and promoted coach travel. Her commitment to continuous learning is reflected in completing the Certificate of Transport Management.
BusNSW Achiever Award (Joint Recipient)
Winner: Michael Langley – Langley’s Coaches & Australia Wide Coaches
Michael Langley received this award in recognition of his practical leadership, technical expertise and unwavering commitment to safety and reliability.
After completing a Heavy Diesel Mechanic apprenticeship, Michael returned to the family business where he now serves as Fleet Manager, overseeing more than 100 vehicles across school, charter and touring operations.
His hands-on leadership style, commitment to preventative maintenance, fleet presentation and regulatory compliance have helped maintain high operational standards, while his willingness to mentor workshop staff and drivers has strengthened capability throughout the organisation.
BusNSW Apprentice of the Year
Winner: Ryan Roll – Transdev John Holland
Ryan Roll proactively managed every stage of his professional development, identifying opportunities to complete practical competencies and working closely with supervisors. Due to his dedication, he completed his Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology a full year ahead of schedule.
Ryan has mentored fellow apprentices, supported colleagues in developing their own competencies and willingly accepted additional responsibilities, including managing spare parts operations and helping maintain business continuity.
His professionalism, accountability and passion for continuous improvement make him an outstanding representative of the next generation of industry professionals.
BusNSW Safety Award
Winner: Busways
Over the past three years, Busways has invested significantly in data-driven safety systems, workforce engagement and predictive risk management, embedding safety throughout every level of the business.
A standout initiative has been the development of a predictive safety model that combines telematics, operational data and behavioural analysis to identify emerging risks before incidents occur. This approach has contributed to a 35 per cent reduction in at-fault incidents, improved trainee safety performance and a stronger organisational safety culture.
Busways was also recognised for its leadership in psychosocial safety, implementing practical wellbeing initiatives following extensive employee consultation and setting a benchmark for safety excellence across the industry.
BusNSW Environment and Innovation Award
Winner: Keolis Northern Beaches
Keolis Northern Beaches innovative transformation of a constrained metropolitan depot through a pantograph charging solution enabled the successful electrification of a facility supporting more than 200 buses.
Equally significant has been its investment in developing Australian expertise through a dedicated Zero Emissions and Sustainable Transport Centre of Excellence, ensuring the skills required to support the industry’s transition remain within Australia.
By embedding environmental performance into executive and board-level accountability, and sharing knowledge gained from its electrification program, Keolis Northern Beaches is helping shape the future of sustainable public transport.
BusNSW Supplier of the Year Award
Winner: Into Training NSW
For more than two decades, Into Training NSW has worked closely with operators across New South Wales, delivering flexible, high-quality training programs, including Bus Driver Authority training and the management of more than 200 authorised trainers.
Its innovative workforce initiatives—including specialist Snow Driver Training, Smart and Skilled programs, Launch into Work and support for women entering the profession—have helped create genuine employment pathways and attract new drivers into the sector.
Through collaboration, innovation and a commitment to workforce capability, Into Training NSW continues to make a lasting contribution to the industry’s future success.
BusNSW Outstanding Contribution to the Industry Award
Winner: David Woodward – Volvo Bus Australia
Beginning as an apprentice mechanic in 1976, David Woodward has become one of the industry’s most respected technical authorities, known for his expertise, leadership and willingness to assist operators throughout Australia.
A passionate educator, he has developed and delivered technical and driver training programs that have improved the skills of technicians, drivers and operators nationwide. His contribution to the transition to zero-emission buses has been particularly significant through his work with TAFE NSW in developing and delivering Australia’s first Electric Bus Micro Skills Course.
His 50-year career has been defined by knowledge, generosity, mentorship and an unwavering commitment to supporting the industry.
