To drive a public passenger bus or coach that seats 13 or more people in NSW, you need to have a Bus Driver Authority from Transport for NSW (TfNSW).
Requirements for a Bus Driver Authority
To be eligible for a Bus Driver Authority in NSW, you must be:
- the holder of a current Australian driver licence
- aged 20 years or over, and have held a full (unrestricted) Australian driver licence for 12 months in the last 2 years, OR
- aged 25 years or over, and have held for at least 3 of the last 4 years:
- a current Australian driver licence (not including a learner licence), or
- a nationally recognised overseas driver licence
- a safe driver (TfNSW will assess your driving record when processing your application)
- medically fit to drive
- a fit and proper person to hold a bus driver authority

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be issued with an Evidence of Training Certificate that must be lodged with Services NSW as part of the NSW Driver Authority Application.
In Person Bus Driver Authority Training
Below is a list of trainers who are authorised by Transport for NSW to deliver in person Bus Driver Authority training on behalf of Into Training Australia. Please contact a trainer in a suitable area and arrange a time to complete the course. The trainer will be able to provide details regarding access to the course learning resource and pre-reading, as well as the course duration and cost.
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be issued with an Evidence of Training Certificate that must be lodged with Services NSW as part of the NSW Driver Authority Application.
